“1733 Doll” by Jean Bader, 1949
From the Metropolitan Museum of Art
Jean Bader used a painting by Lancret for inspiration. Nicolas Lancret (1690-1743) was a French painter known for depicting scenes of light comedy and courtly life under the regent Orleans.
Love this 1940s interpretation of the 18th century. And yes, it’s a robe a la francaise.
